Forestry Education under the Directorate of Forestry Education
The Directorate of Forestry Education (DFE) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) oversees forestry education and training in India. The Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA) in Dehradun, Uttarakhand and the various Central for State Forest Service (CASFOS) are key institutions under DFE.

IGNFA offers training programs for Indian Forest Service (IFS) officers at various career stages, providing courses in forestry, wildlife management and environmental conservation.
CASFOS provides training to State Forest Service(SFS) officers, focusing on State level forest management. The CASFOS institutes are located at Dehradun, Coimbatore and Burnihut Assam.
The Central Academy of Forest Education (CAFE) College in Kurseong, West Bengal also offers Ranger’s Training. This institute (CAFE) has recently been transferred to IIFM Bhopal (on 05-03-2024).
These institutions equip with the skills for effective forest management, contributing to the promotion of forestry education and training in India.
