FOREST CENTRAL LIBRARY
The forest central library, coming under the Kerala forest Department headquarters, was established in 1922 at Vazhuthacaud, Thiruvanathapuram. It is a centralised air conditioned library providing various services to the general public, researchers, officials and students. It is planned as a centre to cater to the needs of scholars and the public concerned with the environment, ecology, forestry, wildlife and allied disciplines.
The Forest Central Library has about 28,000 books, which include books for reference on Forestry, Botany, Zoology, Environmental Science, Agriculture, Management, Administration Reports, Research Reports, Census Reports, Proceedings of the Sree Moolam Popular Assembly, Proceedings of the Sree Chitra Thirunal Popular Assembly, Proceedings of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, etc. Journals like Current Science, Indian Forester, Journal of the Bombay Natural History Society, Conservation Biology, Seminar papers, Biotropica, Development and Change, Journal of Wildlife Management, Landscape Ecology, Journal of Forestry, Aranyam Magazine etc.

The library will be kept open from 10:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. on working days.
The library is divided into different sections for various purposes
1. The Book Launch (Stack Room)
The stack room is the heart of a library’s collection. It’s where the majority of the library’s books stored. Books are typically arranged according to a classification system.
2. Malarvadi (Children’s Section)
A children’s section is a special part of a library. It’s a place where children can explore new worlds, learn about different cultures and develop their imaginations.
3. Chandanathanal (Reference Section & Reading room)
The reference section of a library is where you can find books that provide quick and easy information.
4. Poonkavanam (Green Library)
It’s a place where the whispers of the wind and the rustling of leaves are translated into words and you can enjoy reading in the presence of nature.
5. Souparnika or (Heritage and High-Tech Corner)
Combining a heritage area with e-learning in a library creates a powerful and engaging space. It can be used for group work and discussions.
6. Indraprastha (VIP Lounge)
A VIP lounge in a library is a premium space designed to offer an exclusive and comfortable environment for prominent persons.

How to obtain Membership
The library will have the following membership categories.
Forest Officials (Officials in the rank of Forest Rangers and above) and Staff of the Forest Department)
Those who have registered for Ph.D. or those who have undertaken project work.
This category includes college students, school students and children
This will be a category with some restrictions. Only genuine users of the library will be permitted with special permission of the Officer in charge of the library.
Library Services
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification)
It is a technology that uses radio waves to automatically identify and track library materials
Anti-Theft Systems: RFID tags are integrated with security gates to deter theft.
Members are permitted to take copies of relevant pages from books or periodicals on a payment basis.
